Devon Association Major Final 2013

The Devon Association of Bell Ringers brought the Major Final to Cornwood Parish Church on Saturday 8th June 2013.  The afternoon began with a service at 2pm at which our choir led the singing, accompanied by David Green.  The church was full with ringers from all over Devon appreciating Fr Freddy’s delivery.  At the end of the service, the draw was made for the order of competition.  Once the church had been cleared and the judges had taken up their position nearby, the competition began.  A total of 12 teams had made it through to the final and all were allowed a 15minute ring to show off their expertise in the art.

Cornwood Ringers and Friends

During this time, the Cornwood Ringers and friends busily worked away in the Village Hall preparing teas for up to 100 people.  Everyone joined in, getting cheese or ham ploughman’s meals, followed by a selection of cakes and fruit, ready for the first hungry ringers at 4.30pm.  Some 96 people, including the Competition Judges, sat down to tea before resuming the Ringing Competition until later into the evening.

After all had eaten, the hall cleared, dishes washed and packed away the Cornwood Team of Ringers and their helpers were themselves able to sit down and have a bite to eat.  It was great team work all ‘round and our visitors complimented us on the meal we had provided.

The results of the competition were as follows:

Winners:      Eggbuckland      12.75   faults
Runners Up:      South Brent      20.5    faults
3rd place:      St Petrock, Exeter      27.5    faults
