About Us

St. Michael and All Angels is the Church of England parish church for the village of Cornwood just within the southern edge of Dartmoor National Park. It also serves the small hamlet of Lutton.

To find out about our church see the People page, the Services page, about and the History page.

The church is committed to nurturing the wholeness of human beings, discovering a new depth and resonance of what is meant to be human. Encouraging people to look beyond themselves to God, to the beauties and glories of creation and to their neighbours and those in need. We are also committed to strengthening the bonds of family and community and going out to people where they are and deploying our pastoral gifts and resources.

We are open hearted and inclusive and welcome all who come here. We believe that in order to strengthen the Gospel's proclamation of justice and compassion to the world and for the greater Glory of God we celebrate the diverse gifts of all members of the Body of Christ.

We all have a responsibility to ensure the safety and well being of everyone in our community.  In accordance with the House of Bishops Interim Guidelines on Safer Recruitment 2015, we will ensure those who are working with children, young adults and vulnerable adults on behalf of St Michael and All Angels Church are suitable for the roles they are undertaking.
We will act with other agencies to uphold current safeguarding legislation and follow Diocesan procedures and guidance to protect all in  our church community.
The contact details of the Safeguarding team are posted in the Church if you wish to speak to someone about a concern.

Swallows at Cornwood ChurchFor centuries the porch of St Michael's has been home to a family of swallows who's descendents have returned each new spring. I am reminded of verses from Psalm 84:

"The sparrow has found a house and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young by the side of your altar, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Happy are they who dwell in your house! They will always be praising you" (Pslam 84 v2-3).

These lines are a powerful description of the welcome into which St. Michael's invites you. If even the birds of the air can find a place - a resting place and a nesting place - how much more is there a place for ALL at the table of our Lord in St. Michael's Cornwood. We hope you will want to join us on Sunday, where you will find a gentle spirit, an absence of judgement and a welcome without exception.
